Portland City Team Mission is in need of silverware for serving the needy. If you have any old silverware you aren't using and just want to get rid of, bring it in to the church and the people who go to City Team to serve meals can drop it off for you. They need spoons and forks, no knives. All donations are greatly appreciated by them.

The Canby Center is filling weekend backpacks of food for needy children all school year long. Different churches have been asked to supply certain items. Our church has been asked to provide macaroni & cheese and granola bars. Please help us with this if you are able. Thank you! Contact person: Johnnie Dever.

From: Tim Barton <tim@canbyalliance.org> Date: August 22, 2018 at 6:48:14 PM PDT Subject: the latest from Sam Hey friends, I talked to Sam this afternoon and he gave me the following updates - medical clinic - the doctor at the local government hospital initially said he would provide oversight to the clinic but now he says he won’t unless they pay him $60 US a month which the clinic can’t afford; Sam believes he is a part of the government tribalism trying to shut the clinic down as is happening elsewhere; Sam is concerned but trusting God - he has such strong unflappable faith in God primary schools - the 3 Susu Gospel Ministry primary schools in Samaya, Samuya, and Madina are still waiting to hear if they will become Government Assisted Schools (not full government schools); if they do teacher salaries will be paid by the gov’t which would free up money for school repairs and other things; keep praying this will happen free schooling - the government recently announced that all public schools will now be free in Sierra Leone and students will no longer have to pay fees (they will still have to buy their uniforms and supplies); this could result in students leaving SGM schools and even some teachers leaving which could cause a crisis for Sam and the ministry; Steve Babcock (former southern Baptist missionary in Sierra Leone and mission pastor of a SB church in Tennessee) - is bringing a team of 8 people September 28 to go up to Pastor Mohamed & the church & school Samaya (north of Sesays and south of the Guinea border) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the church; Steve & his church have be a huge help to the work in Samaya Keep praying! The situation with the medical clinic & schools is critical -

August prayer requests. Joseph Sesay depression and anxiety – fears of the future seem to be the cause – · what will it be like to go back to Sierra Leone in 1 year where the medical system and infrastructure are in shamble after the Ebola crisis which killed a lot of medical personnel? · where will he actually work? · how will he support himself (new doctors typically have to work at an assigned position for at least a year and often without pay) · how will he be treated by the ‘older doctors club’ who will look down on him because of his age, inexperience, and getting educated outside of West Africa? · how will the ministry and the medical clinic fit into all of this? Modia Medical Clinic in Lungi – under the new President and government a government health official visited the clinic and told them 1) they have to re-register; 2) pay fees going back 4 years ago that the previous gov’t exempted them from; 3) they need to be under the supervision of a doctor – they will be closed down if they don’t do 1-2-3; Sam and Basiru (son-in-law) putting together a response Steve Babcock, missions pastor of the Church at Sugar Creek in Humboldt, TN is taking a team of 8 from his church to Samaya in September to help Pastor Mohammed with the school and church Beatrice & Michael – the newlyweds were flooded out of their house and are temporarily living at the ministry compound; pray for Michael’s music career

As you can see, the website is up and running. To keep this site alive and vibrant, we need input from the congregation. Any ideas you have for how to improve the website will be greatly appreciated. As new ideas are submitted, I would like to see others commenting on the idea. Is it something that is useful to everyone? Should it be public or members only? Who can help maintain the information? etc.
