Advent Devotionals 2019 | Luke Two

Day 2 | Luke 2

Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation. (Luke 2:29-30 NIV)

We all imagine a great moment in our lives, the time when we will finally do what we were born to do! The day we become who we were made to be, the moment we see something change in this world. We were all made for something, and deep down we know it.

Luke two tells us of a moment like this. Simeon had waited so long to see the Savior. I can only imagine how many times he had asked God about it throughout the years and how many babies had come, only for him to realize, again, that today was not the day.

We get to see his big moment, the moment when Jesus is brought into the Temple and God’s promise of a Savior became real, right in front of his eyes. But we can’t imagine the years and years of waiting. One might say that Simeon’s life peaked in that moment but one moment, even as strikingly great as this moment was, could not fulfill a lifetime. With anticipation this faithful servant waited to see his Savior but it was every day that he spent with his Heavenly Father that brought his life true fulfillment. It wasn’t the sight of Jesus but the hope that He came to save them.

Don’t wait for God’s promise to be right in front of you before you feel fulfilled. Don’t wait until you’ve achieved something great. Chase dreams not fulfillment and find fulfillment in your daily life with Yahweh.

Take a moment and just sit with God. Be thankful for Him.
