Loving our Neighbor
Across the Street & Around the World
Our guys like to meet together for breakfast at Biscuits Restaurant in Canby the second Saturday of each month for a devotional led by Jonathan Doty. Sometimes, following the breakfast, they work together on a project at the church or help individuals at the church who need assistance with a special task they can’t accomplish alone.
Every September, the guys take a 3-night, 4-day retreat to the remote community of Dant (near Maupin) where they stay in a cabin a few yards from the Deschutes River. This has been an extremely popular retreat for many years, and it appeals to young and old alike.
J.O.Y. Bunch Senior Group
“Just Older Youth” (our senior group) meets monthly, usually on Thursdays, to have lunch together at restaurants in the colder months and outdoor picnics during summer months.
They have a bazaar in November each year to raise funds for missions and special senior activities. The highlights of each year are the wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas luncheons.
Victoria Hannaman leads this group and helps make it a closely-bonded network of friends.
The Canby Center
The Canby Center is a local Christian based non-profit dedicated to providing relief to those in need. They describe this on their website as follows: "Following the example set by Jesus Christ, all programs are developed on the basis that first we provide relief, which opens the doors to build a relationship and it is through this relationship that lives are being transformed."
We are proud to be one of the seventeen churches that help support this mission.
CITY TEAM MINISTRIES
Cityteam is a nondenominational Christian nonprofit compassionately serving the poor, the homeless, and the lost in San Jose, Chester, San Francisco, Oakland, and Portland.
Once a month members of the congregation assist City Team Ministries in Portland by serving meals to the homeless. We are able to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and assist others in finding new life through Christ.
We also provide clothing and other personal items for distribution to those in need.
Donham Home is a residential care facility in North Portland that assists those who have physical and mental health needs. Types of care offered are personal, medication management, medical supervision and homemaking, such as providing meals and cleaning of living areas. Residents are ages 18 and over.
We share Christmas cheer with residents by providing gifts and the Women's Group singing Christmas carols. Our church family provides the gifts, some of which are hand made.
